TTO Director Co-Author in SciTech Lawyer

We want to call your attention to an article co-authored by Dr. Becky Mahurin, Director of the TTO, published in the American Bar Association's SciTech Lawyer. The article titled BioProspecting, A hot Spring of Legal Issues profiles the complex and changing legal landscape of this subject and brings out Dr. Mahurin's experience in working with Yellowstone National Park on their first benefits sharing agreement as well as their commercialization process. The article further discusses issues around sample collection on US state lands, tribal lands and in foreign countries. It's a must read for researchers, entrepreneurs and business professionals utilizing foreign materials gathered through bioprospecting.

The TTO would like to thank Dr. Ruben Flores-Saaib of EMD Millipore for visiting MSU, meeting with researchers and updating us on the interests of the company. Broadly, EMD Millipore has interests in cell signaling, cellular biology, protein research, target profiling/lead optimization and small molecule inhibitors and activators. Through discussions at MSU, we identified several areas of overlap and we look forward to pursuing these with Ruben.
